If you’re a woman in tech looking to advance in your career, you should know that the best way to achieve this goal is to excel together is with other women in your field.
I recently had the opportunity to participate in a webinar for Anita B.org and talk with listeners about the different ways women in tech can advance in their career. The first step is to find like-minded women and to work together and rise up.
Research has shown that when women come together for a common cause it helps them be successful, helps to motivate them and give direction to their own career path. When we come together we learn from each other, encourage each other and often reach higher levels in our career.
Women in Tech has compiled a list of the top ten women’s organizations for our industry. I invite you to check them out online, see if they have a local chapter and if not, consider starting one. Work within your own company to start a small group discussion with other women in tech. Invite your most senior female leaders to consider being a sponsor; to offer best practice stories and advice to those just starting out.
The tech industry can be very lonely for female professionals simply because there are so few women in the field. You may need to reach out to other women in other companies within your community to form a group. Use your LinkedIn account to seek women in your field and reach out to them.
The number one reason I formed Tech Savvy Women was for this very purpose: to provide a safe and supportive environment for women in tech to discuss their career obstacles, challenges, and goals.
I invite you to reach out to me on LinkedIn and join our TSW LinkedIn Group. Together we can make a difference in each other’s career and also help to increase the levels of diversity in the industry. Also, check out the complete Anita.B webinar on YouTube to learn more about advancing your career.
