Kris McGuigan joined us on Tech Savvy Women tv last week to talk about ways to further your career. Kris McGuigan is Cleveland’s Top Resume Writer and a trusted Career Advisor. She recently earned the prestigious ACRW designation, making her one of just three Academy Certified Resume Writers in the entire state of Ohio – and the only one with an MBA. She holds coaching credentials from the renowned Career Coach Academy and has trained alongside some of the industry’s leading experts.
In just a quick few minutes, she offers a ton of great advice for those interested in career advancement and achieving your professional goals. Three of her tips are:
- Create a career kudos file – a place (virtual or hard copy) where you save messages, emails, letters and tweets people have shared that demonstrate your value. For example, when I am speaking at an event and people tweet about my presentation, I will take a screen shot of the comments and put it in my career kudos file. This file is also great for when your negative self talk seems especially loud. Just take a quick gander at the positive comments, thank you notes and recommendations people have shared about your work. It will shut down that negative voice in an instant!
- Obtain 360 degree feedback. Be brave. As peers, vendors, customers, and your boss for feedback about your strengths and areas of opportunity. I guarantee you will be pleasantly surprised. And if you do learn of areas for improvement, seek out ways you can strengthen your skills.
- Create specific action plans for your career goals. Just have a goal is not enough to make it a reality. Put down in writing the specific tactics you will need to accomplish to move forward.
